Tribute concert to Peter Green and the blues years of Fleetwood Mac at The Greystones.
Green: A Tribute to Peter Green and the Blues years of Fleetwood Mac comes to The Greystones on Sunday 8 November, a night dedicated to the early, blues-driven era of one of Britain's most famous bands.
If you know Fleetwood Mac, you probably know them as the polished pop-rock outfit of the seventies, but before the California sound and the big choruses, they were a tight, raw blues band led by Peter Green. He was the one who put them on the map in the late sixties, and that's the version of the band this set focuses on. It's the music from before the lineup changes and the shift in direction, back when the songs were built around Green's distinctive guitar work and the blues tradition they were drawing from.
It's a specific slice of the band's history to hold a whole night up to, and that's exactly what this is. Rather than a general best-of, it stays with those early years, so the set will be the blues-inflected material Green wrote and played during his time at the front. If you've always preferred the raw, guitar-led side of the Mac to the later pop, this is the part of their catalogue that'll ring truest.
