Weekly creative writing session with gentle prompts, facilitated by nature writer Coco Lone Neal, at The Writers Workshop.
Get Writing is back at The Writers Workshop on Wednesday 21 October, starting at 11:00. It's the longest-running group at the Workshop, which is a nonprofit social enterprise that runs on the energy of its members. The session is described as a safe, creative space to get new writing down in the company of other writers, and it's open to anyone working on a project.
Every Wednesday the session has its own theme and focus, but there's no formal instruction. Instead, you'll get gentle, playful prompts designed to bring out your own voice and style, in whatever genre and for whatever purpose suits you. It's less about being told how to write and more about having a bit of a nudge to get moving, so it works whether you're halfway through a novel, tinkering with a collection of poems, or just starting something new.
This particular session is facilitated by Coco Lone Neal, an associate and nature writer who writes for The Guardian, The Clearing, Caught by the River and Motherlore Magazine. Having a working writer leading the room adds a nice bit of weight to the prompts, and it's a good chance to spend a morning writing alongside people who are doing the same thing. If you've been staring at a blank page or a half-finished chapter, this is a low-pressure way to get some words on the page.
