Fat Dog

Fat Dog play Electric Studios on Friday 5 February, with the night running from 18:30 to 22:00. It's a single-act bill, so the whole evening is theirs.

They're a South London band working in electro-punk, and the description they use for it tells you exactly where it sits: they mix techno, rock and rave in an effort to capture the spirit of chaotic times. It's a bit of a collision of worlds — the heavy, repetitive drive of the dancefloor meeting the raw energy of a punk set. If you've spent any time in the city's club scene and still keep a foot in guitar music, that's the ground they're covering. The rave influence brings the electronic side of things, and the rock keeps it grounded in a live band format, so it's as much for the dancefloor as it is for the crowd.

The show is presented by Futuresound Events, who've put it together as a standalone night. With Fat Dog as the sole name on the bill, the set will be the entire focus from start to finish, rather than one of several acts on a shared bill. It's a good way to see them without having to work around a support act.

Electric Studios is at 6-7 Leadmill Road, Sheffield S1 4SE, and tickets are £29.30. The night runs from 18:30 to 22:00, so it's an early start and an early finish — you'll be out well before midnight.
