Cinematographic exhibition, part of the Exhibition on Screen series, bringing Renoir's masterpieces on love to cinema audiences.
Exhibition on Screen: Renoir & Love is coming to Showroom Cinema in January, bringing the work of Pierre-Auguste Renoir to the big screen. It's part of the Exhibition on Screen series, which makes films about galleries and artists for cinema audiences. This season returns with brand-new feature films about some of the world's best-loved artists, each one a cinematic journey into their personal and creative lives.
This instalment focuses on Renoir, a founding member of the Impressionist movement and one of the world's most popular painters. He's described as a master of colour and a constantly evolving painter, unmatched at depicting human connection. The film documents a show that gathers his vibrant masterpieces exploring love in all its forms, so the whole thing centres on that one theme.
It's a proper collaboration, too. The film was directed by Ali Ray and made in close partnership with The National Gallery in London and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the two galleries that provided the work. Having both of them involved means the film can draw from two of the biggest collections of his work in the world, rather than just one.
