Splinters Theatre Group are bringing Dear Evan Hansen to the Montgomery Theatre, with performances running from Tuesday 20 to Saturday 24 October. It's a youth production of the award-winning musical, which picked up six Tony Awards and has played to audiences all over the world. The story follows Evan, an anxious teenager whose small lie spirals into something far bigger than he ever imagined, landing him at the centre of a story that brings the connection he's always longed for, but at a cost. The contemporary score carries the show through themes of mental health, family, identity, grief and the search for belonging, and it leaves a message of hope that nobody should ever feel alone. You'll recognise songs like 'Waving Through a Window', 'For Forever' and the anthem 'You Will Be Found'.
This is an amateur production, presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International and staged by Splinters Theatre Group, one of Sheffield's leading youth theatre companies. They describe themselves as dedicated to developing confidence, creativity and performing arts skills in young people across the region, so this is a local cast taking on a big show.
