Beginner-friendly printmaking workshop with tutor Joanna Rucklidge to make Christmas cards, gift tags and decorative prints using Gelli plates.
Joanna Rucklidge is running a Christmas Gelli Printing workshop at the Upstairs Gallery at Spirals, 345 Ecclesall Road, on Thursday 3 December from 6pm to 8.30pm. It's a session for adults aged 18 and over, and you don't need any previous experience to join in — it's aimed at complete beginners.
If you've never come across it, Gelli plate printing is a simple, versatile way of printmaking that uses a soft, reusable plate to make unique prints without needing a printing press. You work with colour, layering, textures, stencils and everyday objects to build up images and create unexpected effects, and then turn those prints into your own Christmas cards, gift tags and decorative papers. All the materials and equipment are provided, so you just need to turn up.

Joanna Rucklidge is a Sheffield-based artist, lecturer and researcher who studied Graphic Design at the Glasgow School of Art and Visual Communication at the Royal College of Art. She's currently pursuing a practice-led PhD on the correlation between environmental climate change and consumer choices associated with wastepaper, so there's a fair bit of professional printmaking knowledge behind the session. Tea, coffee and biscuits are included, and the workshop runs from 6pm to 8.30pm on Thursday 3 December at the Upstairs Gallery at Spirals, 345 Ecclesall Road, S11 8PF. Tickets are £46.
