Student-run ceilidh at The Edge in Endcliffe Student Village, with a possible Sheffield morris display in the interval.
Sheffield University Ceilidh Society are hosting a ceilidh at The Edge, Endcliffe Student Village on Saturday 7 November. It's a student-run night, and they've made it clear it's open to all ages, so you don't need to be a student to get involved.
If you've never been to a ceilidh, the basic idea is straightforward: a live band plays traditional dance music, and a caller walks you through the steps for each dance as you go. You don't need to know any of it beforehand, and you don't need a partner to join in. It's as much about the social side as the dancing, and since it's run by the university society, it's got that particular student-led energy to it.
There's a bit more on the agenda than just the dancing, too. They're planning a Sheffield morris display during the interval, so you'll get a look at some local morris dancing while you're taking a breather between sets. It's a nice way to see a bit of the city's folk tradition without having to go hunting for it.
