Big Fish Little Fish Halloween Family Rave

Big Fish Little Fish are bringing their Halloween family rave to The Steamworks on Saturday 31 October, from 16:00 to 18:00. It's a Monster Mash for little ghouls, so if you've got kids who'd rather dance than sit through a traditional party, this is the one. The whole thing is built around families dancing together, and it's a proper rave on the dancefloor rather than a children's disco: no kids' music, no games, and no DJ shout-outs. Just a dancefloor and a sound system.

Big Fish Little Fish have been doing this since 2013, and they've picked up a few awards along the way — Best Family Event at the Arts Council Family Arts Festival Awards six times, and Best Family Music at Festival Kidz. The Guardian called them 'reliably excellent', and they've been covered by BBC News, Radio 1, The Sunday Times, ITV and MTV, with appearances at Glastonbury and the V&A Museum. They've also made a few changes for the better over the years: they stopped giving out glowsticks for environmental reasons and use biodegradable balloons where possible.

On the practical side, it's a stewarded and risk-assessed event, with music levels set to WHO guidelines — well below what you'd find in a usual club — and no glass in the bar. It runs from 16:00 to 18:00 at The Steamworks, 109-111 Randall Street, Highfield, S2 4SJ, with tickets from free up to £12.91 via Eventbrite.
