Beginner course in peg loom weaving to turn raw fleece into rustic mats, with two evening sessions or a full Saturday day.
Ed's Workshop at Carver House is running a beginner peg loom weaving class this November, and it's pitched at absolute beginners, so you don't need to have ever touched a loom in your life to sign up. The whole thing is about peg loom weaving, a traditional craft where you take washed, raw fleece and weave it by hand into thick, rustic mats. It's a tactile, slow process, and you'll be working with the raw materials yourself rather than just following a pattern on a pre-made kit.
One of the nicer details is that the looms you'll be using are handmade in the venue's own woodworking workshop right there in Sheffield, so there's a bit of local making behind the making. By the time you've finished the sessions, you'll have something to take home: a cosy chair rug, a small pet mat, or a handmade Christmas present if you're getting your shopping sorted early.
You've got a choice of how to fit it into your schedule. There's a two-evening option on Wednesday 4 and Wednesday 11 November, from 6:00 to 8:30pm each night, which lets you dip in and out over a couple of weeks. Or, if you'd rather just get it done in one go, there's a full-day session on Saturday 28 November, from 10:00 to 15:30, with a lunch break in the middle. The class runs at Ed's Workshop, Carver House, Carver Street, Sheffield S1 4FS.

It's £75, which covers all your materials, so you don't need to bring your own fleece or anything like that. Just a heads-up on the Saturday session: lunch isn't provided, so you'll want to bring your own or find something nearby during the break.
