Northumbrian folk brothers The Brothers Gillespie play Cafe No9 in Nether Edge, with support from Iona Kaye.
The Brothers Gillespie play Cafe No9 on Monday 19 October, with support from Iona Kaye. The brothers are James and Sam Gillespie, Northumbrian folk musicians who grew up in the village of Wall and sing both original and traditional songs. Their sound is built on lyrical intensity and fluid fingerstyle guitar, with flute, fiddle and mandolin rounding out the arrangements. Sam Lee has highlighted their blood harmony, and their live shows are known for a rare intimacy and for weaving tales around the songs.
They draw on the landscape of their homeland, walking the borderlands with packs and instruments. Across three albums and much touring they've won hearts with songs carved from the rock, turf and skies of Northumberland; The Fell was called 'a classic in the making' by Northern Sky and shown 'British acoustic music in its best possible light' by Folk Radio UK. In October 2026 they released their fourth studio album, Kingfisher, and have planned UK and international touring throughout 2027. They've played Cambridge, Sidmouth and Moseley Folk Festivals and opened for Lankum and Sam Lee.
