Guitar project Bryde, with special support from The Psycles, plays Cafe No9 in Nether Edge, the second of two back-to-back shows.
Bryde is back at Cafe No9 on Sunday 25 October, the second of two back-to-back shows. The first was the night before, so if you missed that one, this is your second chance to catch her in the same room over the same weekend.
Bryde is the electric-guitar-led solo project of Sarah Howells, who left university to tour the UK from the back of a transit van. She grew up on 90s grunge and 00s emo, and names Deftones, Hole, Tori Amos and Jeff Buckley as early influences before moving towards Bon Iver, Cat Power and The National. The project emerged in 2016 after several incarnations, and The Sunday Times described her guitar work as 'sensational, feral'. Her songs draw on psychology and the inner workings of relationships, which she describes as being about 'entangling and unravelling'. Her sound was shaped working with producers including Jolyon Thomas, who has worked with Royal Blood, and Bill Ryder-Jones of Saint Saviour.
Across three albums she's opened for Rufus Wainwright, played Green Man and Latitude, and toured Europe and the US. Her third album, Still, came out in July 2021 and was nominated for the Welsh Music Prize. Supporting her on the night are The Psycles, two longtime friends who write gently ardent music for the 'quietly disillusioned'.
