All in one day. Preparation for Birth and life with your New Baby

All in one day: Preparation for Birth and life with your New Baby runs at the Parentcraft Room, Jessop Wing Antenatal Clinic on Sunday 13 December, from 10 am to 4 pm. It's a full-day course run by the Jessop Wing in its own antenatal clinic, and there are a couple of things to keep in mind before you book: it's open only to women planning to give birth in Sheffield and to those in their third trimester. If that's you, it's a single day that pulls together a lot of the ground you'll want to cover before the baby arrives.

The morning session focuses on the lead-up to the birth itself. You'll go through the changes your body goes through in late pregnancy, how to recognise when labour is actually starting, and the different coping strategies you can use. There's also a look at pain relief, induction, and Caesarean birth, so you've got a handle on the options and what to expect.

After a coffee break, lunch, and a tea break, the afternoon shifts to the birth and the first few days. It covers the birth itself, skin-to-skin and the Golden Hour, your feeding choices, and the practical side of things: handling a newborn, baby care, and nappy changing. There's also a section on recognising when a baby might be unwell, which is one of those things that's much easier to wrap your head around before you're actually in the thick of it. This isn't the only session available, either; further courses follow in the months ahead.

It's free, and your ticket admits you and your birth partner, so you can both be there for the whole day. The Parentcraft Room is in the Jessop Wing Antenatal Clinic, Tree Root Walk, Sheffield S10 2SF, and it runs from 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday 13 December.
