Live folk and blues show with singer-songwriters Alice Howe and Freebo at Cafe No9 in Sheffield.
Alice Howe and Freebo play Cafe No9 on Wednesday 21 October, part of the venue's live-music series. They're playing as a duo, with Howe on vocals and Freebo on bass and backing vocals.
Howe is a singer-songwriter whose voice and songs are described as timeless, personal and universal, drawing comparisons with the distilled sounds of Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. Her second album, Circumstance, was recorded at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and produced by Freebo. That's the same studio where Aretha Franklin recorded some of her most famous work, so it's a fair bit of ground to cover for a Sheffield gig.
Freebo is a folk, rock and blues singer-songwriter and bassist who's spent over 40 years recording and touring. He spent a decade with Bonnie Raitt and has worked with CSN, Ringo Starr, Dr. John and Neil Young, and was named Best Folk Artist at the 2007 LA Music Awards. He's the one who produced Circumstance, and he'll be on stage with Howe for this show.
