Free Hip Hop night by 206 Zulu, the Seattle nonprofit that stewards Hip Hop arts and culture, at Washington Hall.
206 Zulu is playing Washington Hall on Monday, October 19, at 6 PM. It's a hip hop and rap show, and it's free to get in.
If you've spent any time around the Seattle hip hop scene, you've probably run into 206 Zulu. They're a Seattle-based nonprofit founded in 2004, and they've spent the last two decades stewarding hip hop arts and culture through free and accessible programs. Over the years, they've become a vital partner at Washington Hall and a recognized leader in cultural organizing, education, and advocacy—work that's inspired similar organizations across the country.
Their reach goes well beyond the stage. They run Emerald Street Studios, a community recording studio right inside Washington Hall, and Zulu Radio, a weekly show on KBCS 91.3 FM. There's also Soulful Mondays, a free all-ages weekly gathering, and Meeting of the Minds, a podcast and dialogue series. The whole thing is built on providing accessible spaces and serving the community by uplifting, preserving, and celebrating hip hop culture.
