A story concert weaving literature and music, presented by local performers as part of the Write Out Loud 20th anniversary season.
Write Out Loud is celebrating its 20th anniversary season of story concerts, and the next one is Twain Told Talesโan all-Mark Twain programโon Monday, August 24, at 7 PM. It's playing at the Dottie Studio Theater, part of the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Performing Arts Center in Liberty Station.
If you're not familiar, Write Out Loud is a series that brings the written word to life by weaving together stories, poems, and literature with music. Each program focuses on a specific theme, and the performances are handled by local actors and musicians. This particular night is dedicated entirely to Twain, so you'll get a good stretch of his work read and played out in that same story-and-song format. The series has moved to a new home at the Dottie Studio Theater, and all the shows this season open at 7 PM.
This is part of a longer run that goes through 2027. After the Twain night, there's a holiday program in December, a show celebrating Black History in February, and an audience-choice finale in July. If you're a reader, it's a decent way to spend a few evenings hearing literature performed rather than just reading it on a page.
