Live Afrobeat performance by Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, supported by Dogo du Togo and The Alagaa Beat Band.
Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 play Belly Up in Solana Beach on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. They're sharing the bill with Dogo du Togo & The Alagaa Beat Band and DJ Flying Disc.
If you're not familiar with the name, Seun Kuti is a Nigerian musician, singer, songwriter, saxophonist, and activist. He's the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, and he's been leading Egypt 80 since 1997, when he took over the band after his father's death. He'd joined the group before he was 12, so he's spent more of his life in the band than out of it. Along with the music, he revived Fela's political party, the Movement of the People (M.O.P.).
There's plenty of new material to hear. His 2024 album Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head) was executive produced by Lenny Kravitz and features Damian Marley and Sampa The Great. A 2025 deluxe edition added Kamasi Washington, Posdnuos, and Adi Oasis to the mix. This year, he released the single "NA DEM" with Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine.

Opening the night is Dogo du Togo, who leads the Lomé-based Alagaa Beat Band. He blends psychedelic rock with afrobeat into a sound he calls the "Alagaa Beat," which he says is rooted in Togo's Vodún traditions. DJ Flying Disc rounds out the lineup.
Doors open at 7 PM and the show starts at 8 PM. General admission is $35 in advance and $35 on the day of the show, with reserved loft seating available for $62.
