A journalist investigates a cult in south Texas, exploring the line between delusion and belief and asking how community belonging can become a matter of life and death.
Emma Gibson brings Lumin to the MOXIE Theatre in San Diego, with the production running from February 14 through March 14, 2027. It's a month-long run, so you've got plenty of dates to choose from if the first few don't fit your schedule.
Lumin follows a journalist who sets out to expose a cult in south Texas and finds more than she bargained for. It's the kind of story that walks the line between delusion and belief, and it asks how community belonging can become a matter of life and death. The whole thing plays out at MOXIE, an intimate, nonprofit San Diego venue whose mission is to create more diverse and honest images of women+ for our culture through theatre.
The play is part of MOXIE's Season 22, titled Ungovernable, which runs from October 2026 through June 2027. The season asks what happens when we ask the questions they don't want us to ask, break the rules a little, and exercise our right to resist. Lumin fits right into thatβa journalist poking around a cult in south Texas is a pretty direct way of asking those kinds of questions.
