Third edition of MOXIE's program staging new works by women+ playwrights over a weekend of readings.
MOXIE Theatre brings back the Lamoise New Works Festival from Friday, April 9, through Sunday, April 11, 2027. This is the third edition of the program, which is dedicated to developing new works by women+ playwrights. The festival is the culmination of a one-week workshop, and the weekend itself consists of staged readings of full-length and short plays.
If you're a writer, there's a way in here too: playwrights are invited to submit their work to the program. The whole thing is built around getting new scripts on their feet, and the readings are where the audience gets to see the results of that week of development. It's a good look at work that's still in the process of being shaped, rather than a polished production.
MOXIE is an intimate, nonprofit performance venue in San Diego. Its mission is to create more diverse and honest images of women+ for our culture through theatre, and it does that by staging bold plays written by women+. The Lamoise festival fits right into thatβit's a program specifically for women+ playwrights, and the readings are the public part of a process that starts with a workshop. The festival is part of MOXIE's Season 22, titled Ungovernable, which runs from October 2026 through June 2027.
