An art-first gathering bringing together San Diego's experimental art, hip hop, and skate communities, with live music and a book exchange.
Local Frequencies Vol 2 is happening at Overload on Saturday, October 24, starting at 4 PM. It's an art-first gathering that brings together San Diego's experimental art, hip hop, and skate communities, and this is the second edition of the series. The whole thing is presented by Hush Hush.
The format is built around a few different things happening in the same room. There's original work on display from emerging artists and local legends, and that sits alongside live music. You'll also find exclusive limited artist-designed drops available during the event. Then there's the Book Exchange: bring a book to take part and take one away if something catches your eye. It's the kind of afternoon where you can hang out with the art, listen to the music, and trade a few books without having to choose one over the other.
Because it's an art-first gathering, the focus is as much on the visual side as the sound. The pairing of emerging artists with local legends means you'll see work from people just starting out next to people who've been part of the city's creative scene for years. The hip hop and skate influences run through the whole thing, and the experimental art side keeps it from feeling like a standard gallery show. It's more of a cross-section of a few different San Diego circles coming together in one spot.
