Grammy Award-winning reggae artist Gramps Morgan performs with the British reggae band UB40 at the Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre.
Gramps Morgan is playing the Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre on Saturday, October 31, with UB40 sharing the bill. The San Diego date is promoted by Dadason Entertainment.
Gramps Morgan is the stage name of Roy "Gramps" Morgan, a Grammy Award-winning reggae artist who first made his mark as a member of Morgan Heritage. The band debuted at Jamaica's Reggae Sunsplash in 1994 and later won a 2016 Grammy for Best Reggae Album for Strictly Roots, released in 2015. His 2009 single "Therapy," featuring India.Arie, reached number 22 on the Billboard R&B chart.
These days he lives in Nashville with his wife, Dr. Annabelle Morgan. While there, he met Scottish producer Johnny Reid at a sporting event, and their collaboration resulted in a country-infused reggae album that Morgan describes as his first solo outing in eight years. The reggae roots run deep in the family: his father, Denroy Morgan, was a Jamaican immigrant who helped form New York's first reggae group, the Black Eagles.
