Reggae and dub band Easy Star All-Stars perform their tribute to Pink Floyd's 'The Dark Side of the Moon' at the Belly Up in Solana Beach.
Easy Star All-Stars bring Dub Side of the Moon to Belly Up in Solana Beach on Thursday, October 15, with Double Tiger opening. The New York-based group has built a name as one of the top international reggae acts, and they're known for a sound that brings together instrumental skill, vocal harmonies, and a strong rhythm section.
Their whole thing started with Dub Side of the Moon in 2003, a reggae re-working of Pink Floyd's classic album. That set the pattern for a series of tribute records that followed: Radiodread in 2006, Easy Star's Lonely Hearts Dub Band in 2009, and Easy Star's Thrillah in 2012. They also put out a remix album, Dubber Side of the Moon, in 2010, and two original collections, the Until That Day EP in 2008 and First Light in 2011. Over the years they've toured more than 30 countries across six continents and played many major festivals, including a three-day, three-stage run at Glastonbury in 2009 that earned them a UK Festy Award nomination.
Opening the night is Double Tiger, the stage name of Jay Spaker. He's a producer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist who's a central figure in the modern American reggae and dub scene, much of it through his work with Dub-Stuy Records.
