Concert by the influential sludge metal band Melvins, with support from Headsend, at the Belly Up venue.
Melvins play Belly Up in Solana Beach on Tuesday, October 20, with support from Headsend. It's a 21-and-up show, so keep your ID handy.
If you're not familiar with the name, the Melvins have been around since 1983, starting in Montesano, Washington. Singer and guitarist Buzz Osborne formed the band, and drummer Dale Crover joined the following year. Over the last four decades, they've put out more than 30 original studio albums, including Bullhead, Houdini, Stoner Witch, and Tarantula Heart. They're often credited with pioneering sludge metal by blending punk rock and heavy music into a sound of their own—a mix of punk, doom, grunge, and experimental rock. Along the way, they've worked with Jello Biafra, Mudhoney, and Fantômas. In 2012, they completed a tour of 51 states in 51 days, which was chronicled in the film Across The USA in 51 Days. The current lineup is Osborne, Crover, and Steven McDonald of Redd Kross and OFF!.
Opening for them is Headsend, a trio whose debut Angel Glands EP was recorded live-in-the-studio by Nick DiDia. Between the two, you've got a full night of heavy music.
