Derren Raser plays the Oktoberkress Music Festival on Saturday, October 10, in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego. The festival day kicks off at 5 PM, and Raser takes the stage at 8 PM.
If you haven't come across his name before, Raser is a San Diego songwriter and performer with a fair bit of history behind him. He picked up a Hollywood Music Award for Best Male Vocalist back in 2008, and his songs have worked their way onto television, radio, and into retail chains across the country. He's also shared stages with John Mayer, Hanson, Tyrone Wells, Ben Taylor, Sonya Kitchell, Greg Laswell, and Escondido. On stage, he's known for a strong presence and intricate guitar work, with songwriting that reaches across genres and generations.
He'll be playing from his new EP, The Retelling, which continues his focus on thoughtful, accessible songwriting. It's the kind of record that sits comfortably in the singer-songwriter tradition—songs that don't hide behind a lot of production and instead lean on the writing itself.
