Contemporary jazz bassist Blair Bryant performs live at Waterfront Park in San Diego.
Blair Bryant plays Waterfront Park on Saturday, October 10, at 1 PM. He's a contemporary jazz bassist from Kansas City, Missouri, and this is a solo date.
If you're not familiar with him, there are a few names that help place where he sits. Smooth jazz legend Najee has called him a contemporary of Stanley Clarke, and he's been compared to Marcus Miller for his writing and producing. He's a multi-instrumentalist who plays 14 instruments, and he earned a Jazz Studies degree from the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance. These days he serves as Musical Director for Najee, so he's spent a good deal of time on the road and in the studio with one of the biggest names in the genre.
He's also played alongside a long list of jazz luminaries: Darren Rahn, Greg Manning, Blake Aaron, Norman Brown, Bernie Williams, Nic Colionne, Jonathan Butler, Bobby Lyle, and Poogie Bell. When he talks about who shaped his own sound, he points to Joe Sample, George Duke, Stevie Wonder, and Najee. That mix of smooth jazz, R&B, and fusion is exactly what you'll hear when he takes the stage.
