San Diego premiere of the comedy Arrowhead, written by Catya McMullen, at Diversionary Theatre.
Diversionary Theatre is bringing Arrowhead to San Diego this November, a comedy written by Catya McMullen. It's the play's San Diego premiere, and it runs from November 12 through December 6, with opening night on November 21 at 7 PM.
The story centers on a lesbian who finds herself accidentally pregnant and decides to host a secret abortion party at a lake house. From there, the weekend spirals into a chaotic collision of crashing friends and imploding identities. It's a comedy that takes on bodily autonomy and community expectations with humor rather than hopelessness, so it's less about the heavy side of the subject and more about the mess that happens when a group of people gets stuck together under a lot of pressure.
Arrowhead is part of Diversionary's 41st Anniversary Season, which this year is built around the idea of exploring purpose—individually, in each other's lives, and beyond. The theater itself has a long history here: founded in 1986 in University Heights, it's the third-oldest LGBTQIA+ theater in the country. It was created by and for marginalized people with a commitment to social justice and equality, and its mission is to provide an inclusive space for the community to celebrate and explore diverse LGBTQIA+ stories through live performances of new and classic voices.
