Pianist Youl Sun, fresh from his Bachauer Gold Medal victory, plays Frank, Kim, Debussy and Liszt at the Jeanné Wagner Theatre.
Youl Sun plays the Jeanné Wagner Theatre on Friday, November 6, at 7:30 PM. He's coming off a gold medal at the Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition and a debut at Carnegie Hall, and this is one of the stops that follows. The concert is presented by the Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation.
The program moves from contemporary to classic. It opens with works by Gabriela Lena Frank and Texu Kim, two living composers who set the stage for the rest of the night. From there, it shifts into Debussy's Images, known for its colorful, atmospheric writing, and finishes with Liszt's Transcendental Études, some of the most demanding and celebrated pieces in the piano repertoire. It's a broad spread—modern pieces to start, a French impressionist in the middle, and a heavy-hitting Romantic closer.
