Screening of 'The Wailing' by Na Hong-jin in the Salt Lake Film Society's annual horror series Tower of Terror at the Eccles Theater.
The Wailing is playing at the Eccles Theater on Friday, October 23, as part of the Salt Lake Film Society's annual horror series, Tower of Terror. Na Hong-jin's 2016 South Korean thriller is the main feature for the night, and it's one of the titles the society is bringing to the big screen this October.
If you haven't seen it, The Wailing is a slow-burn that starts as a police procedural in a remote mountain village and gradually spirals into something much stranger. It's a long movie—over two and a half hours—and it works best in a theater where you can really settle into the atmosphere it builds. Watching it on a big screen is a different experience than catching it at home, especially with the way the tension ramps up as the story unfolds.

Tower of Terror is the Salt Lake Film Society's yearly horror series, and it takes over the Eccles Theater with weekend screenings that run through the end of October. The society programs a variety of horror films throughout the month, so The Wailing is just one stop in a larger lineup of screenings. The Eccles is at 111 S. Main in downtown Salt Lake City, and the film runs on Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24, so you've got two nights to choose from if you can't make the Friday showing.
