Monthly one-hour walk through the Tracy Aviary to see native plants through the lens of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation, led by Rios Pacheco.
The Shoshone Plant Experience is back at Tracy Aviary this Wednesday, October 21, from 10 AM to 11 AM. It's a monthly program that takes you on a walk through the Aviary to look at native plants and their traditional Shoshone uses, seeing the greenery through a Shoshone lens. Along the way, you'll hear the stories and traditions of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation, so the plants you might usually walk past become something more than just background.
This particular session is led by Rios Pacheco. The whole thing lasts about an hour, and because it's a walk, you're seeing the plants in place rather than reading about them on a plaque. It's part of a regular series, so if you're around on a Wednesday morning, it's one of those things you can drop into without much planning.
It's worth keeping in mind where this fits into the bigger picture at the Aviary. The venue itself is housed in the Historic Chase Mill in Liberty Park, and this plant walk sits alongside a pretty eclectic mix of other special offerings: wine pairings, bird-themed cabaret shows, and artist-in-residence workshops. It's a different kind of morning than a cabaret show, but it's all under the same roof.
