Author Tatiana Schlote-Bonne talks about her YA horror novel 'What Feeds Below' in a conversation with fantasy writer Alexandra Kennington.
Tatiana Schlote-Bonne will be at The King's English Bookshop on Thursday, November 12, to celebrate the release of her new YA horror novel, What Feeds Below. It's a conversation rather than a reading, and she'll be joined by local fantasy author Alexandra Kennington. The two will talk through the book, and the night is open to all ages, so it works as a family outing or a solo trip if you're just there for the horror.
What Feeds Below is described as The Descent meets Annihilation, so it sits in that claustrophobic, unsettling territory where the environment is as much of a threat as whatever is actually hunting you. If those two titles ring a bell, you've got a good handle on the kind of atmosphere Schlote-Bonne is working with here. It's YA horror, but the comparison suggests it's leaning more toward the psychological and the atmospheric than the jump-scare side of things.
Kennington isn't just filling the second chair, either. She's a local fantasy writer who's also celebrating a release: her New Adult romantasy, Drown the Bones. Having two authors on the same stage gives the night a bit more to chew on than a standard book talk, and it's a good chance to hear from two different ends of the speculative fiction spectrum in one go.
