Interactive story time for young visitors inspired by nature, reading Owl Moon by Jane Yolen, part of the Our Backyard series.
Story Time @ NHMU is back at the Natural History Museum of Utah on Tuesday, October 20, with a reading of Owl Moon by Jane Yolen. It's part of the museum's Our Backyard series, an interactive story time for young visitors that uses tales inspired by the natural world to get kids thinking about the outdoors.
Each month, the museum picks a book based on nature and reads it aloud. The reading is just the start, though—the hour wraps up with a small game, a craft, or an interactive activity tied to the book's subject. For this session, that means Owl Moon and whatever activity the team builds around it. The whole thing is run by the museum's Youth & Family Programs team, so it's designed for families with young children.
If you've never been, the Our Backyard series is a recurring thing, not a one-off. Every month brings a different book and a different activity, so it's a good way to keep coming back with the kids. This time around, the focus is on Owl Moon, a story about a child and their grandparent walking through the woods on a moonlit night to find an owl—right up the museum's alley.
