A free storytime for families with art exploration and hands-on activities in the galleries, held on the first Wednesday of the month.
Once Upon an Art Museum is back at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts on Wednesday, November 4, from 11 AM to 11:30 AM. It's a free storytime for families, and it's part of a larger tradition the museum keeps going every first Wednesday of the month.
Here's how it works: everyone gathers in the museum lobby, and from there, arts educators lead the group into the galleries. Once you're inside, they read a story and guide you through the art on the walls, talking about what you're seeing. After the story, the kids get to make a simple, kid-friendly art project inspired by the work on view. Every month brings a new story and a new activity, so it's different each time you go.
The session is part of the museum's free first-Wednesday-of-the-month admission, which opens the galleries to everyone at no charge on those days. That means you can stick around after the storytime and keep exploring the rest of the collection without paying a thing. If you've got little ones who are still figuring out how to behave in a museum, this is a good way to introduce them to the spaceβthey get to move, listen, and create something of their own rather than just walking past frames in silence.
