Concert by the psychedelic rock power trio Soul Dye, with support from Lesser Moose and Strawberry Jam.
Soul Dye are playing The Urban Lounge on Wednesday, November 4, with Lesser Moose and Strawberry Jam opening. It's a local bill, and the night is presented by S&S Presents.
Soul Dye is a psychedelic rock power trio from Salt Lake City, and they describe their sound as taking in the mountains of northern Utah as much as Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix. That puts them in a specific pocket: the wide, open landscapes of the Wasatch Range on one side and the heavy, distorted psych of the late sixties on the other. It's a local band playing a local room, so you're seeing them on their own turf.
The trio is fronted by Bryce Walker, whose slide guitar gives them their signature edge. He's backed by bassist Joe McDaniel, who also plays in Seeking the Sun, and drummer Wayne Aggen, who is in The Lip. Both McDaniel and Aggen bring in their own projects, so the rhythm section is made up of musicians who are active in the city's scene rather than just session players. With Lesser Moose and Strawberry Jam on the bill, the whole night stays within that psychedelic, guitar-driven territory.
