First-person storytelling evening in which Charlotte Starks portrays Sojourner Truth and Jan C. Smith portrays Susan B. Anthony, part of the America250 series.
Charlotte Starks and Jan C. Smith bring Sojourner Truth and Susan B. Anthony to the Salt Lake Art Museum on Thursday, December 10, from 5:30 to 7 PM. It's a first-person storytelling evening: Starks, known as Mama Charlotte, steps into the shoes of the abolitionist and women's rights advocate Sojourner Truth, while Smith portrays the pioneering suffragist Susan B. Anthony. The pairing puts these two figures on the same stage, and the focus is on how courage, conviction and perseverance helped them both change the course of American history.
The show is part of Storytelling Pairings: A Blended Celebration of American Legacy, a series that pairs historical figures and runs on the second and third Thursdays from October through December. This particular pairing is presented by Story Crossroads in collaboration with the Utah Storytelling Guild and the Nubian Storytellers of Utah Leadership. The performance is filmed and shared on the Story Crossroads YouTube channel, so if you can't make it in person, you can still catch it later.

There's a bit more to the project than just the performances. Story Crossroads is one of only 50 organizations nationwide selected to receive an America250 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and this series is part of that work. The museum is at 249 South 400 East in Salt Lake City, and the show runs from 5:30 to 7 PM. Admission is free, though you'll want to RSVP or register to get reminders and a link to the recording on the Story Crossroads YouTube channel.
