The SLCC Theatre Department presents Kate Hamill's playful adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel, following the Dashwood sisters.
The SLCC Theatre Department is bringing Sense and Sensibility to the Black Box Theatre in Salt Lake City this spring. It's Kate Hamill's adaptation of Jane Austen's novel, and it runs April 1–3 and April 8–10, with every performance starting at 7 PM.
If you're familiar with the story, you know the setup: the Dashwood sisters are left financially destitute and socially vulnerable after their father dies. From there, the plot follows their fortunes and misfortunes as they navigate the expectations and constraints of their world. Hamill's version is described as a playful take on the original, so it's less a stiff period piece and more of a spirited reimagining of Austen's work.
This is a student production, and the road to these dates started well before the curtain went up. Auditions and callbacks were held in January, and the cast has been working through the spring run since then. It's a good chance to see the department's work up close in the Black Box, where the distance between the stage and the seats is short.
