Culinary event by the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) exploring the tradition of Pan de Muerto.
Pan de Muerto is the next culinary event in the Corn Series, hosted by the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) at Salt Lake Community College's Miller Campus on Monday, November 2. It's part of their annual series, which they describe as a program of culinary events that brings Latin American cultures and traditions to the college community through food. If you've been following the series, you know the drill: each session centers on a specific dish or ingredient, and this one is all about pan de muerto, the traditional "bread of the dead" baked for Día de los Muertos.
For those who aren't familiar, pan de muerto is more than just a sweet bread. It's a central part of how many families in Mexico and across Latin America honor their ancestors during the holiday, with the bread often placed on altars alongside photos of loved ones. The Corn Series is built around that kind of connection—using food as a way to talk about the cultures and traditions it comes from, rather than just treating it as a recipe to follow. The session is presented by CLAS, the college's Center for Latin American Studies, so the cultural context is as much a part of the morning as the food itself.

It's a morning event, which is a nice change from the usual evening slots. It runs from 10 AM to 12 PM on Monday, November 2, so you'll be in and out before lunch. You'll find it at the Miller Campus in rooms CART 115 and 117, located at 9750 S 300 W in Salt Lake City. If you're coming from downtown, that puts you on the south side of the valley, so give yourself a little extra time to get down there.
