Weekly Sunday sketching class led by Olivia Glascock, teaching how to draw urban scenes with pen and pencil, with materials included.
Olivia Glascock is leading a series of sketching classes at Historic Trolley Square on Sunday afternoons this October. The sessions run from 2 PM to 4 PM, and the one coming up is on October 25. If you've missed the earlier ones, it's still a good time to jump in.
Glascock teaches drawing as a regular practice you can pick up anywhere you happen to be, rather than something reserved for a studio. She demonstrates how to build an urban sketch using a viewfinder to frame the composition, and covers line quality with both pen and pencil. From there, she shows how to work shapes from the general to the specific, starting with the big picture and filling in the details as you go. The whole idea is that you can draw wherever you find yourself—waiting for a connecting flight, at a shopping mall, or in your own backyard.
No prior experience is necessary, and anyone 16 and over is welcome. Materials are included, so you don't need to bring a thing, though if you prefer your own sketchbook, you're welcome to bring it along. It's a low-pressure way to get into sketching, especially if you've never picked up a pencil before.
