Hands-on workshop led by Evi Hollins to press and arrange real flowers onto clay discs to create botanical ornaments.
Red Butte Garden is hosting a pressed flower ornament workshop on Wednesday, November 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the garden's classroom. It's a hands-on class where you'll press and arrange real flowers onto clay discs to make botanical ornaments—the kind of thing that works as a holiday decoration or a handmade gift, and that you can keep as a little heirloom for years to come.
It's not just about sticking petals on clay, though. The session walks through the basics of floral design—balance, composition, and color—so you can think about how you're arranging the flowers before they're set. You'll also learn the gentle adhesion and clear-sealing methods needed to protect fragile petals, and each finished ornament is tied off with a ribbon. All the materials are provided, so you just need to show up.
Leading the class is Evi Hollins, an artist, designer, and educator with a degree in industrial design who's been making art since the sixth grade. She teaches creative workshops for adults and children that range from printmaking to pottery to candle making, and her work can be found in galleries, shops, and art markets across Wyoming, California, Nevada, and Utah. This is one of those sessions where you walk in with nothing and walk out with a finished piece you actually made yourself.
