Beginner workshop on keeping backyard chickens, part of Red Butte Garden's adult classes and workshops.
Red Butte Garden is hosting a Backyard Chickens for Beginners workshop on Monday, November 2, as part of its adult education program. It's a class aimed at people who've been thinking about keeping chickens but aren't quite sure where to start—the kind of thing that's easy to talk about and a bit more complicated to actually set up.
The workshop is held at the garden in Salt Lake City, and since it's for beginners, it's built for someone coming in with little to no experience. You'll get a look at the basics of starting a small flock at home, and because it's a class, you'll be learning alongside other people who are in the same boat. It's a good way to get your questions answered before you commit to a coop and a few birds.
It helps to have a sense of where this is happening. Red Butte Garden is a 100-acre garden and arboretum in Salt Lake City, home to around 3,000 species of plants and trees spread across themed gardens and natural areas. Along with its seasonal plant sales and Garden After Dark evening events, it runs a program of adult classes and workshops covering wellness, horticulture, and art, held in person at the garden unless otherwise noted. This one fits right into that mix.

There are a couple of practical things to keep in mind. All classes include same-day admission to the garden, so you can spend some time wandering the grounds before or after the session. If you're a member, you'll save up to 20% on the class. The workshop is on November 2 at Red Butte Garden in Salt Lake City.
