Off White Christmas

The Off Broadway Theatre Company is bringing Off White Christmas to Salt Lake City on Friday, November 27, a production they're putting on together with Laughing Stock Improv. It's a musical parody of the holiday classic, and since it's a collaboration between a theater company and an improv troupe, you can expect the comedy to be front and center.

The story starts after World War II, when two Army buddies trade their uniforms for jazz hands. When their former general invites them to his cozy mountain inn, they find out the place is about to go broke. Their solution is as straightforward as it is ambitious: they decide to put on a show, armed with big personalities, quick wit, and a whole lot of song-and-dance. It's a parody of the original White Christmas plot, so if you're familiar with the movie, you'll recognize the setup—the two buddies, the struggling inn, and the big production that saves the day—only this time it's played for laughs.

Because Laughing Stock Improv is involved, the show leans into the comedic side of the musical theater format. The plot serves as the framework, but the real draw is the parody itself, with the songs and dance numbers twisted into something more like a comedy sketch than a straight musical. It's the kind of show that works whether you've seen the original movie a dozen times or have never heard of it, as long as you're in the mood for a holiday-themed comedy.

Off White Christmas runs on Friday, November 27, at The Off Broadway Theatre Company in Salt Lake City. It's a collaboration between the theater company and Laughing Stock Improv, and since it's a parody of a holiday favorite, it's a good fit for anyone looking for something a bit more irreverent than your usual Christmas outing.
