Short-form improv comedy show with no script, using audience suggestions and participation, presented by The Off Broadway Theatre Company.
Laughing Stock is back at The Off Broadway Theatre Company on Saturday, October 31, for a night of improv comedy. The show is presented by the theatre company itself, and it's a late one: the curtain goes up at 10 PM.
If you've never seen them, here's the deal: Laughing Stock has been making people laugh for over 32 years. The act is built on lightning-fast, short-form improv and decades of comedy experience, which means they're creating everything on the spot with no scripts and no safety net. No two shows are ever the same, and that's by designβthey lean on audience suggestions and participation to drive the comedy, so what happens depends on what the room brings to the table. They also take the act on the road, hiring out to bring the laughter to other rooms.
The night is staged at The Off Broadway Theatre (OBT), which opened in 1994 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) company. Over the years, they've brought family-friendly parodies, traditional plays, musicals, and live improv to Salt Lake City, and this show fits right into that mix. It's a long-running local institution, and Laughing Stock is one of the acts that's been part of the city's comedy scene for a long time.
