Screening of the National Theatre Live film of Molière's The Misanthrope, with Sandra Oh in the title role, directed by Indhu Rubasingham.
Broadway Centre Cinemas is bringing a National Theatre Live screening of The Misanthrope to Salt Lake City on Sunday, January 16, 2027. It's a filmed version of the production from London's National Theatre, so you're seeing the full stage performance on the big screen rather than a movie made for cinema.
Sandra Oh takes the title role, which is a reimagining of Molière's dark comedy. If you know her from Killing Eve, you've seen her do the sharp, biting side of things, and that's exactly what this play is built on. The production is directed by Indhu Rubasingham and adapted by Martin Crimp, who also wrote the National's Cyrano de Bergerac. It's a classic that's been reworked for a new stage, and since it was filmed live, you get the energy of the theater without having to fly to London.
In Salt Lake, the screening is presented by the Tanner Humanities Center, which brings in a lot of these National Theatre Live events. It's a good way to catch a major production that would otherwise be thousands of miles away, and seeing it in a cinema means you're close enough to the action to catch the performances properly.
