Screening of the National Theatre Live stage-to-screen production of Clifford Odets' 'Golden Boy', starring Josh O'Connor and directed by Sam Yates.
Broadway Centre Cinemas is bringing a stage production to the big screen on Saturday, February 13, 2027, with a screening of Golden Boy. It's part of the National Theatre Live series, which films plays from London and broadcasts them to cinemas around the world. This one is a revival of Clifford Odets' American classic, directed by Sam Yates, who also did Vanya.
Josh O'Connor takes the lead. You might recognize him from The Crown and Challengers, and here he plays Joe Bonaparte, a gifted young violinist in 1930s New York. The story is set at the height of the Great Depression, and it follows Joe as his chance at fame and fortune lures him into the brutal world of professional boxing. From there, he has to confront what he's willing to sacrifice and figure out how to find his place in a world that demands he choose a side. It's a stage-to-screen staging, filmed live at the Almeida Theatre, and the cinema screening includes a live string quartet playing along.
