Annual storytelling series of the University of Utah Resiliency Center, with seven ten-minute true stories from clinicians, patients and family members on the theme 'Guts!'
Healthcare Stories: Guts! comes to Kingsbury Hall on Thursday, February 11, 2027, at 7 PM. It's the ninth installment of an annual storytelling series put on by the Resiliency Center and the Center for Health Ethics, Arts, and Humanities at the University of Utah, presented through UtahPresents. The whole point is to give clinicians, researchers, patients, family members, staff, faculty and students a space to share their own experiences with healthcare.
The format is the same every year: seven true ten-minute stories, selected from submissions and told by the people who lived them. This time the theme is Guts! — a nod to where the action happens and where a crucial biome connects directly to our brains. The call for stories asked for humor, bravery, complication and an investigation into what it means to be human. It's not the first time the series has worked around a theme; past editions were Together, Promise, Wonder and Illness & Wellness.
Directors Gretchen Case and Megan Call describe the evening as a chance for the audience to connect with each other and their community, rather than a lecture, a TED Talk, a slam or a competition. That distinction tells you a lot about what to expect: these are personal accounts told in the first person, not a curated presentation or a contest. The stories are selected from submissions, so the lineup comes from the people who've actually been through the experiences they're describing.
