Exhibition marking the 25th anniversary of the Marcia and John Price Museum Building with notable works from the museum's collection.
For the Future: Collecting at the UMFA 2001-2026 is on view at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts from August 29, 2026, through January 3, 2027. The exhibition pulls from the museum's own collection to mark the 25th anniversary of the Marcia and John Price Museum Building, which opened in the summer of 2001 and replaced the museum's former home in the University of Utah's Art and Architecture Center.
That building was made possible by a gift from Marcia and John Price, described as the largest ever made to a cultural institution in Utah. It was designed by Machado and Silvetti of Cambridge, Massachusetts, with local partners Prescott Muir Architects, and picked up two awards in 2000: the Honor Award for Urban Design from the Boston Society of Architects and the Merit Award for Excellence in Architecture from the New England chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Since the doors opened, the collection has grown by about 25 percent to more than 22,000 works spanning 5,000 years of human creativity. This show looks at the acquisitions that have come into the museum over the last quarter-century.
