Los Angeles rock band Dummy, fronted by Emma Maatman, plays the International Bar with support from The Gontiks.
Dummy play the International Bar on Monday, October 26, with Golomb and local guest The Gontiks opening. The Los Angeles rock band is signed to Polyvinyl Records and fronted by Emma Maatman on vocals, synths and organ, with Nathan O'Dell and Joe Trainor on guitar and bass, and Alex Ewell on drums, synths and bass. Touring bassist Lance Umble joined as a full-time member along the way.
Their debut full-length, Mandatory Enjoyment (Trouble in Mind, 2021), became a sleeper hit and drew praise from Pitchfork and Stereogum. The follow-up, Free Energy (2024), plus its remix album Bubbelibrium DLC, pushed the sound harder, dancier and more psychedelic, evoking Madchester and rave optimism. Their latest record, do you love the color of the sky?, draws on post-rock and drone influences such as Seefeel, Windy and Carl, and Laika and Disco Inferno, with pop hues of early Bjƶrk, The Sundays and Madonna's Ray of Light. Maatman's writing touches on A.I., the devaluation of art and the surveillance state.
