Hands-on art workshop in which participants paint a 12-inch wooden skull to celebrate Day of the Dead, with all materials provided.
Bad Dog Arts is hosting a Day of the Dead painting workshop at their downtown Salt Lake City studio on Thursday, Oct 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. The project is a festive 12-inch wooden skull, and you'll spend the evening painting it to celebrate the holiday. Instructor Olivia Glascock will be there to help everyone pick a color palette, so you don't have to figure out the combinations on your own. When it's finished, the skull can stay in your home as a decoration or go on an ofrenda.
Day of the Dead is a time for families and friends to gather, honor, and remember deceased relatives, and this workshop turns that tradition into a hands-on project. It's a good way to mark the holiday with something you actually make yourself. No experience is necessary and all the materials are provided, so you just need to show up. The session is for ages 16 and over.
Bad Dog Arts is a non-profit organization in downtown Salt Lake City that runs programs for all ages. They describe their studio as a safe space for confidence-building and highly creative activities, both in their classrooms and across the community, and they encourage artists from all cultures and backgrounds to imagine, dare, and create through the arts. This workshop fits right into thatโit's a low-pressure way to get something on a canvas, or in this case, a wooden skull, without needing a background in painting.
