Community art program in which visual artists show up to two pieces with an artist statement and the public votes for favorites.
Connect returns to the Urban Arts Gallery on Friday, December 11, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. It's a statewide community art program built to celebrate and nurture the artistic spirit of Utah's visual artists, and it's open to all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. That means it's as much for the hobbyist as it is for the professional.
The format is straightforward: photographers, painters, sculptors, and mixed-media creators bring up to two pieces of artwork and a brief artist statement. The gallery fills up with work from across the state, and community members are invited to vote for their favorite pieces. The competition opens up the chance to exhibit at the gallery for a month, so there's a real incentive to put your work out there.
Because it's open to all ages and experience levels, you'll see a wide range of styles and backgrounds in one room. It's not just about the polished stuff; it's about seeing what people are making in their studios and spare rooms across Utah. If you've been working on something in private and haven't had a reason to show it, this is a low-stakes way to get it in front of people.
