Candlelight tribute concert in which a local string quartet plays Joe Hisaishi's cinematic music at The Little America Hotel.
Candlelight: The Best of Joe Hisaishi comes to The Little America Hotel on Sunday, October 18, for a tribute to the music of Joe Hisaishi. Hisaishi is the composer behind some of cinema's most recognizable scores, and the concert brings those cinematic soundscapes into a live setting. It's a tribute show, so it's not associated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Hisaishi or his official representatives.
The setup is simple: the room is lit by candlelight, and the music is performed by a string quartet of top local musicians. The program runs for about 60 minutes, and the focus is on the melodies Hisaishi wrote for some of the most beloved stories in film. If you've spent any time with those soundtracks, you'll recognize the themes as they're played through strings rather than a full orchestra.
The venue is The Little America Hotel, at 500 S Main St in downtown Salt Lake City. It's a prominent mid-century building known for its spacious layout and enduring presence in the city center. The concert is recommended for ages 8 and up, and anyone under 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult.
