Storytelling session in which Everett L Spencer portrays Booker T Washington and Jeff Driggs portrays John Adams, part of the 'Storytelling Pairings' cycle.
Story Crossroads brings Booker T Washington and John Adams to the Salt Lake Art Museum on Thursday, November 19, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. It's a first-person storytelling session where two figures from very different eras and backgrounds share the same stage, each portrayed by a performer speaking as the man himself. Everett L Spencer takes on Washington, and Jeff Driggs portrays Adams.
The pairing is part of Storytelling Pairings: A Blended Celebration of American Legacy, a cycle that runs on the second and third Thursdays of October, November, and December 2026, always from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. The series looks at how these two men helped shape the future of the country through knowledge, leadership, and public service, told through these first-person portrayals rather than a lecture or a play. Washington and Adams lived centuries apart, but the pairing puts them in conversation around those shared themes.
Story Crossroads is presenting the series in collaboration with the Utah Storytelling Guild and the Nubian Storytellers of Utah Leadership. It's also part of something larger: Story Crossroads is one of only 50 organizations nationwide to receive an America250 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, which is the federal agency that funds the arts in the U.S. The grant is tied to the 250th anniversary of the United States, and this cycle is one of the ways the organization is marking it.

If you're interested in the rest of the series, the Storytelling Pairings cycle continues through December on those same second and third Thursdays, all from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. This particular session—Washington and Adams—is on November 19 at the Salt Lake Art Museum.
