Monthly book arts club for adults and teens 14 and up with hands-on projects like papermaking, bookbinding and 3D-printed art.
Book Crafts Club meets at the Salt Lake City Public Library's Marmalade Branch on Wednesday, October 28, from 6 PM to 7:45 PM. It's a monthly gathering for adults and older teens, ages 14 and up, and it runs every fourth Wednesday of the month, so if you miss this one, there's another coming soon.
The club is for readers, makers, and artists who want to get their hands dirty with the physical side of books. The projects change from month to month, and they cover a fair amount of ground: papermaking, bookbinding, and 3D-printed art are on the list, along with handmade bookmarks and custom fandom merchandise. It's a good spot if you've ever looked at a book and wondered how it was actually put together, or if you just want to make something physical to go along with what you're reading. The organizers describe it as a place for people who believe books are more than stories — they're art to be celebrated and shared.
The Marmalade Branch itself is worth a mention if you haven't spent much time there. It opened in early 2016 as part of a mixed-use project in the Marmalade/West Capitol Hill area, designed by Blalock & Partners Architectural Design Studio and LEED Silver certified. The first floor houses Lucky Ones Coffee, run by a team of neurodiverse baristas, and a Creative Lab equipped with maker tech like 3D printing and sewing machines. The second floor opens onto a wrap-around terrace with views of the Capitol Building, so there's plenty to do around the building before or after the session.
